The Marion County Sheriff’s Office tells KNIA/KRLS that area roadways are up to 75%-100% covered with snow and slush. The Iowa DOT reports that most central Iowa roadways are mostly to completely covered. County and state plows are in operation. Normal winter driving conditions exist. There are reports of multiple cars in ditches along county roads and state highways as well as numerous spin-outs. Sheriff Ron Goemaat recommends you travel only if you absolutely have too today. Those with no need to travel should not be on the roads. Goemaat says take plenty of time, and give our road crews and first responders plenty of room to work.
