Following a physical pair of conference tilts Friday night, Pella lit up the scoreboard in a pair of wins against PCM at Pella High School Saturday afternoon.

After three consecutive nail-biting conference finishes, the No. 3 Little Dutch had quite a bit of breathing room in their 85-52 rout of the Mustangs.

Pella’s boys featured their bench heavily throughout, but the day still belonged to senior forward Ryan Van Wyk, who during his 23-point, seven-rebound performance eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark. Van Wyk tells KNIA/KRLS Sports he’s had the benefit of playing with great players during his career, and the milestone reflects the team success they’ve had.

“I’m not a huge stats guy or points guy–I really just like winning, but it is a big accomplishment,” he says.

Nick Finney and Drew Pringle found Van Wyk early and often, and each had five assists. The Mustangs’ were led by Andrew Van Ryswyk, who hit five-three pointers in the second half to rack up 17 points, and Elijah Sperfslage tacked on 13.

The No. 1 in Class 4A Lady Dutch were without Kiara Bradley after she returned against DCG the previous night, but still earned a solid 66-49 win over PCM. Throughout the game, Pella gradually pulled further and further ahead.

They were paced by 22 points and eight boards by Emily Holterhaus and 21 points and five shots from beyond-the-arc for Katie Vander Molen. The Mustangs were led by 14 from Katie VandeWall and 10 points, five rebounds, and three steals from Kaylee Townsend, who missed most of the 2nd quarter with an ankle injury.

The Lady Dutch are 11-1 and the Pella boys are 10-1, and each travel to Knoxville for a doubleheader Tuesday. PCM’s boys fall to 6-4 and the girls to 10-3, and each travel to Saydel for Heart of Iowa Conference action on Tuesday as well.
